Strong Year for the Work Experience Program
The Work Experience Program at Global Village Toronto is growing
again! So far, 2006 is shaping up to be one of the biggest
years for this program.
As the students talk to each other and
hear about their friends' experiences working in a Canadian
company, they have been adding this great program to their
study plan. |
This year students have been working in many
different fields. We have placed students in: marketing and
promotions, customer service (tourism), finance, IT, recreation,
education, and law.
They have been working in great organizations such as Franklin
Templeton, Gentry Lanes Luxury Car Dealership, Casa Loma, Forest
Hill Montessori School, the YMCA, and the Canadian Diabetes
Association.

Carlos Funada from Brazil (photo) spent 12 weeks at Franklin
Templeton Investments working in the Accounting Department
as one of their assistants.
Carlos enjoyed his time at Franklin Templeton learning about
Canadian accounting systems and was able to help with several
projects. His supervisors commented that he was a great team
player, always willing to step in and help whenever he could.
His aptitude with numbers, his previous experience, and his
professional attitude made him a welcome addition to their
team.
Most students can not believe how different working is from
being in school and they frequently comment that it takes a
little time to get used to speaking with native speakers all
day instead of other students. |
Now, I really like working there, but the first
week working at Casa Loma wasn't so exciting for me. The reason
is just because I hadn’t gotten used to being there and
I was really nervous about talking to people in English. I
didn't have any confidence in my English. At that time I missed
my friends from GV a lot, but as time went by, I started getting
used to working there and speaking English. I also started
talking to workers from Casa Loma. They were all really nice
and friendly to me. I was really comfortable with them and
it helps me a lot in many ways. Even in my country, I sometimes
had some difficulties talking to strangers. I didn't usually
like to do those things. Now I can talk to everyone without
any difficulties. Whenever I think about that, I feel that
I have improved myself a lot socially.
The period when I was there was not so busy but we still had tourists from
all over the world. The castle is much more famous than I thought. Many people
were really impressed by the beautiful building and asked me lots of questions.
I felt so good when I could answer and help them.
I met lots of people who were interested in Japan at Casa
Loma too. First I was surprised because I never imagined that
Japan is such a famous country. Now I am proud of being from
Japan.
All those things that I learned from people at Casa Loma are
my treasure. I will not forget about it and their kindness.
Working there helped me a lot in the terms of thinking about
my job in the future. I would like to keep studying using my
knowledge from Casa Loma in Japan.
I strongly recommend this place to other students who are
going to do an internship. This is the nicest place ever!" |
