Two Japanese students, Naoko and Nanae,
recently completed the English and Floral Design Program at
Global Village Toronto and the Canadian Institute of Floral
Design.
After
completing 3 weeks of English classes, they were ready to
join the full-time "Professional Floral Design Program".
The three-week intensive floral design program prepares students for a career
in the floral industry and many Canadian graduates have opened
retail stores and wholesale floral outlets.
The majority
of the students in the program are Canadians exploring their
passion for flowers. This makes it a great opportunity for
foreign students to interact with native speakers and thrive
in an English-only environment. Students do several arrangements
a day and take extensive notes on design.
During their 3
weeks, the students studied the following:
- Design forms
- Design techniques
- Proper care and handling of fresh cut flowers
- Wedding etiquette
- Funerals and sympathy tributes
- Wholesale excursion
