NOOSA, AUSTRALIA

Peak Season for the English + Programs

With a year-round warm climate, Noosa is ideal for a range of English + programs. As summer approaches, however, we move into our peak season for a variety of water sports and for golf. Here are the most popular 'English +' on the Sunshine Coast.

Surfing

Noosa and surfing go hand in hand. Noosa is world famous for its surfing, especially for those learning to surf for the first time or wanting to improve their skills. You will be taught by former world champion Merrick Davis on the magnificent Noosa main beach.
Merrick has successful taught thousands of first time non-English speaking students to ride the waves.

Our English and Surfing course is hugely popular. Students attend part-time general English lessons from 09.00am to 12.30 Monday to Friday. Surf lessons are held in the afternoon, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; should bad weather force the cancellation of a lesson it will be rescheduled for the following Wednesday. Students are collected from school at 13.30 and return at approximately 16.00.

  • Minimum Enrolment: 1 week
  • English hours per week: 15 hours
  • Surfing hours per week: 8 hours
  • Included: Return beach transfers, equipment hire

Golf

Noosa is blessed with a fantastic climate. For most of the year there are beautiful sunshine and cloudless skies. Combine this with a world class golf course like Noosa Springs Golf Club and highly respected and experienced club Pros like Bill Davidson, and you can see why so many people choose to enrol in the English and Golf course at GV Noosa.

Students study General English from 09.00 to 12.30 Monday to Friday; on Tuesday and Wednesday they will take two half hour golf lessons with the club pro followed by an hour practice session at the driving range, putting green and/or bunker (unlimited balls); students use this time to work on problem areas of their game. On Thursday students take a 2 hour, 9 hole playing lesson with the club pro; this is an intensive lesson, where students are instructed while they play. Finally on Friday students put their new skills to into practise and relax while playing 9 holes unaccompanied.

  • Minimum Enrolment: 1 week
  • English hours per week: 15 hours
  • Golf hours per week: Approximately 8 hours
  • Included: Return golf course transfers, equipment hire

Kiteboarding

Lake Cootharaba, just a 25 min drive from GV Noosa is one of the worlds best kept kiteboarding secrets. The lake is the perfect training location for beginners to advanced kiters. It is possible to walk across 95% of the lake with the exception of a slightly deeper channel running through the middle for boat traffic. Kiteboarders can kite there on many different winds ranging from northerlies, north-easterlies through to southerlies and south-easterlies. During the summer months the winds pick-up from about 13:00 and stay good through until 16:30-17:30. This enables GV Noosa to offer its unique English and Kiteboarding package.

Students attend general English lessons from 09:00-12:30. Students are collected from GV Noosa between 12:45 and 13:00 and spend 2 hours per day kiteboarding.

Kiteboarding is weather dependant and for this reason our programme is run 4 days per week. This enables students to catch up on missed lessons, due to lack of wind. Students who progress quickly can become an IKO certified kiteboarder in as little as one week!

  • Minimum Enrolment: 1 week
  • English hours per week: 15 hours
  • Kiteboarding hours per week: 8 hours
  • Included: Return lake transfers, equipment hire

Scuba Diving

Noosa is one of Australias best kept diving secrets. Just off Noosa magnificent beaches shores lies Jew Shoal which attracts a vast array of marine species. The warmer waters of summer bring schools of fish such as Mackerel, Barracuda, Bonito, Trevally, Cobia and Yellow Tail Kingfish. Majestic Manta, Bull, Cowtail, Blue Spotted and Shovel Nose Rays are routinely spotted lazing around in the sandy gutters and Eagle Rays, in groups of up to thirty, are often seen gliding around the shallow waters just on top of The Pinnacle. Leopard (Zebra) Sharks turn up around late November for three months. These inquisitive, harmless creatures often swim in very close quarters with divers.

There are also many resident Loggerhead and Green Turtles, Moray Eels and a multitude of smaller creatures which are a scuba diver’s dream.

Just over one year ago the ex-HMAS Brisbane war ship was sunk off the Sunshine Coast. This now provides a phenomenal diving opportunity for students. Access inside the Brisbane is optimum with all internal areas offering three points of natural lighting with wide, open entry and exit swim throughs. Don't forget too that the ex-HMAS Brisbane is the only purpose designed dive wreck in Australia where you can actually dive inside the engine and boiler rooms.

The clarity of the water provides a consistent 15-20 metres visibility with temperatures currently between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Students do the PADI Open Water Course while they are at GV Noosa. The course is run over two weeks with students attending general English lessons from 09:00-12:30 Monday to Friday and studying their dive theory on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons of week 1, with Wednesday afternoons free. The students do two open water dives on the reef on the first Saturday and a further two on the wreck the following week. Students are free on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons for week two and many take this opportunity to take some surfing or kitesurfing lessons.

  • Minimum Enrolment: 2 weeks
  • English hours per week: 15 hours per week
  • Diving / Dive Instruction hours: At least 18 hours
