Global Village Toronto is excited that our English + Cooking program in partnership with Liaison College has its first student! Ignacio Del Rio Mora from Mexico joined the program at Liaison on September 18 and has already extended his stay to further improve his English and his culinary skills.
When Ignacio arrived in Toronto, he didn't know if he wanted to pursue a career as a chef. His goal was to come here and check out if a career in the kitchen was for him. Now, he feels that he has found what he wants to do and he will continue down this path.
Liaison College offers students hands-on training and theory in essential culinary techniques. Students develop a wide range of skills: professional knife and cutting techniques; how to create a wide range of meat, poultry, seafood and vegetable dishes, in classical, contemporary and international styles; the preparation and importance of soups, stocks and sauces; and the fine art of seasoning.

Students in the English + Cooking program study 10 lessons per week of English at Global Village Toronto and have 20 hours per week of cooking classes at Liaison College's West Campus.
At Liaison College, they have been very supportive of Ignacio; the fact that English is not his first language has not held him back. Everybody in the class has helped him and over the past six weeks he has definitely improved his English and increased his confidence in his abilities in the kitchen. Ignacio has excelled in the class and he says, "You surprise yourself about what you can do. It makes you want to always do better." He especially enjoys the end of the day when they see their finished product and knows that all the hard work from the day has paid off. "They teach you how to make magic with the food." This says it all! |
