Meet our new Japanese Counselor

Congratulations are due this month to our former Japanese counselor, Kana Suzuki, who gave birth to a daughter at the end of November. In her place we are happy to welcome Rie Milligan as our new Japanese counselor.

Rie grew up in Tokyo. After graduating from high school, she came to Canada to take ESL courses as a steppingstone to university here. She majored in Modern Languages (mainly German and French) at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick and also spent a year in Tuebingen, Germany, as an exchange student. Now she is married and the mother of two girls. Her family moved to Victoria in February 2005 from Ottawa.

Rie loves to study and learn new languages and cultures. She hopes she can support GV students, putting her personal experience to use.

Christmas decorations at GV Victoria

Christmas is almost here and it's time to start decorating the school. Every year our students help us to decorate our Christmas tree and share a few Christmas treats while we're doing it.

After we've finished the tree we go to the world-famous Empress Hotel for the Festival of Tress. This year there are over 60 decorated Christmas Trees to admire. Visitors can vote for their favorite tree and win prizes!
