Students can choose options that let them focus on the skills they need to improve; they can take a Business English option (even if they aren’t advanced enough for the full-time Career English program); or they can take a general interest option.
The classes offered range from Survival English for the beginner student to English through Drama for the students who want to explore their creative side.
Taking feedback from both the students and the teachers, we have made the option classes even better! This year we have added several new options so now students can choose a new option each month, as they are all offered on a three-month rotation.
Students are happy to have more choices; teachers are happy to have different objectives to focus on with their students each study block. Students at the higher levels can now also take:
- Reading for Academic Purposes,
- Academic Writing, and
- Listening for Academic Purposes.
These courses are designed to help students prepare to enter the EAP program at Humber College (www.humber.ca).
Students will now have a final assignment or test in each option and that grade will appear on their monthly progress report. This better allows students to gauge how they are doing and shows them how well they have learned the material taught that session.
