"You're Hired!" - Exciting new projects in our Business English Program

GV Hawaii's Business English Program developed a few exciting new projects this past term. In February, 2007, the Business English class published the first volume of GV News, a student-produced newspaper which included articles about the class field trip to The Honolulu Advertiser, interviews with GV staff members, local and world news, entertainment, as well as sports and opinions.

BEP teachers Sherene Ariffin, Florian Rouch and Philip Thurston challenged their classes to develop and publish the newspaper. Students said it was an "academically rigorous" exercise!

Also, on February 24th, the BEP class visited the Shriners Hospital for children. Touched by the children they met, the BEP classes organized and held a fundraiser for Shriners Hospitals for Children on March 2nd, 2007.

Homestay meal options

For all students who choose homestay as their accommodation choice, please indicate on their registration form if they would like full board (three meals a day) or half board (two meals a day). If neither is indicated, it will be assumed that the student is requesting full board.

Fourth week start dates

GV Hawaii has thirteen official start dates a year. We recommend that students start their courses on one of these start dates; however, we do realize that sometimes students have prior commitments or conflicts with scheduling - to accommodate this, we allow students to start on the second and third weeks of our terms.

During the fourth week of our study term continuing students are reviewing material they've learned on Wednesday and take a final exam on Thursday. Because new students may not be familiar with the material reviewed and the final exam, we strongly discourage the from starting on the fourth week.

For students who must start on the fourth week, we recommend that they take private lessons during their first week then join classes on the second week they are here.
