GV Toronto Homestay Program
Two students write about their great experiences in Homestay and how it really added to their learning experience in Canada. With many different options available, such as full-board, ½-board, a room with a private bathroom, TV and internet access, the Global Village Toronto Homestay team can help find the perfect family for each student. |
Luis Miguel from Mexico writes:
I entered Global Village Homestay in September of 2006 and I can say that it has been a great experience because I have everything that I need. I get great food and I am very comfortable. My Homestay father is a guy from Egypt and he is great. He helps me with anything that I need and gives me good advice. When I am down we have great talks and he makes me laugh anytime I need to. |

Being in Homestay is one of the greatest parts of being in Toronto. It gives me the chance to learn a lot about Canadian culture and because my Homestay father is originally from Egypt I have learned a lot about Egyptian culture, too. I also get to eat food from lots of different cultures because my host cooks food from different places like Italy, Mexico, and of course Egypt!
I recommend Global Village Homestay to everyone because you will meet great people who will support you and make your stay here in Toronto really comfortable. |

Mustafa from Turkey writes:
Accommodation is always a big issue for students who study abroad. We are usually not sure is we should stay with a Homestay or live alone. In my opinion, if you study English, you should stay with a host family because it really helps students to improve their speaking skills. |

As for me, I have studied English in both England and in Canada. I have had three host families in all. I had two in England and now the one I have here in Toronto. I have been staying with my current family for five months, and I am really pleased to be living with them. They consider me a member of the family which makes me very comfortable at home. They are also really helpful. When I ask them a question or need something they help me willingly, and always encourage me to learn English.
I recommend to every student that they stay with a host family. Since, as students, our first goal is to learn English, living in Homestay is a very advantageous choice; much better than living alone! |
