The classroom tables and seating arrangements at Global Village Vancouver got a makeover this month. Gone is the traditional configuration of rectangular tables arranged in horseshoe shapes. In its place are trapezoidal styled tables (see photo). The new classroom set ups are very appealing to teachers and students alike.
According to Director of Studies Beth Fawcett, there were a number of reasons the school invested in the new design. Trapezoidal tables allow teachers to configure the classroom in a variety of ways for different teaching purposes. The tables are particularly efficient for organizing students into small groups for interactive activities. They can also be organized into a V-shaped configuration for large-group interaction.
Regardless of what style the teacher chooses, the size and shape of the new trapezoid tables provides more classroom space than the traditional rectangular tables for ease of movement for both students and teachers.
So far, Beth reports, the feedback from teachers and students has been positive. "Most people seem to like it", she says. |
