IELTS Course and Testing Expands at GV Calgary
The International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) is growing around the world. GV Calgary is at the forefront of this growth in Canada. IELTS is jointly administered by the British Council, Cambridge ESOL and IELTS Australia. The IELTS Test assesses English proficiency. The Academic test version is used by universities around the world. The General version of the test is used by many organizations, such as Immigration Canada, as a tool to assess potential immigrants to English-speaking countries.

GV Calgary offers both Academic and General IELTS. In just two years we have seen rapid expansion in the numbers of candidates. We are now offering the IELTS Test in both Calgary and Edmonton.
Our IELTS Centre Administrator, Jackie Gomes notes, "We are more than happy to help students organize an IELTS test date once they are registered for the IELTS preparation program. We encourage all students to plan ahead, as the demand for IELTS is very high and test dates fill up quickly." At GV Calgary, more students are taking the 25 lesson per week IELTS Preparation Program, which is offered every month all year round. It is one of our most popular and culturally diverse classes.
Students take the course for academic or immigration reasons, or because they want a different kind of study challenge to improve their English in all skill levels. Here is some information about one of our IELTS students, Maria Guimaraes, who is 24 years from Campinas, Brazil. Maria plans to immigrate to Canada next year, which is why she has chosen to prepare for the IELTS test, which she will take at GV Calgary in July. Although she could have prepared for this exam in Brazil, she chose to come overseas because, in her opinion, immersion in the language is an important part of the learning experience. She is completely happy with the course and, in her own words, "I love my teacher."
