BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

Introducing Eugene, new Senior Teacher

Teaching has been Eugene's profession of choice for all of his working life. This is an important pre-requisite for any teacher as it is required to develop their competence over a period of time.

Teachers may be born, but Eugene believes that they also need to be 'made'. As a Secondary High School teacher in a Cambridge school, Eugene was closely associated with the UCLES (University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate) for several years as an examiner. He spent five years teaching ESL in New Zealand, with IELTS, TOEIC and Business English as the main focus.

Eugene

In addittion to being a TOEIC Proctor, he was also Director of Studies. For the past sixteen months, he has been preparing students for the IELTS test and we are now delighted to announce his appointment as Senior Teacher. Eugene brings with him a wealth of experience and enthusiasm which are sure to benefit all of our students and teachers at GV Brisbane and it is great to have him on board!

Wii Fever

In addition to the very popular flat-screen television in the student lounge at GV Brisbane, which is the focal point of the college during major sporting events such as the World Cup, students are now getting to grips with the school’s new Wii computer game console.

The system features a range of games, the most popular being tennis, although soccer also draws a good crowd of keen and talented players. Here Larry from Taiwan and Tiago from Brazil slug it out on the tennis court...

Internships at GV Brisbane!

Luis Raul Salazar Rodriguez - Chihuahua, Mexico tells his story. In March 2007 he arrived in Brisbane with a dream: to one day work for Ferrari.

So why did Luis choose to study in Brisbane? Having already studied in Italy after gaining his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mexico, Luis felt that before approaching such a famous company, he should really gain some relevant industry experience as well as improving his English in a different culture and environment.

Afternoon Class

Luis

Realising that it is a relatively new destination for Mexican students, Luis decided on Brisbane and on Global Village. Global Village Brisbane works with Australian Internships to find appropriate unpaid placements for students. Depending on the kind of internship requested, a sufficient level of English and relevant qualifications are required before a placement can be guaranteed. Fees apply to each placement and vary according to the length of the internship. A special visa also needs to be issued for long internship placements and this can all be arranged through Australian Internships.

It is now just over three months since Luis arrived. He started at a pre-intermediate level and now has already completed an upper-intermediate level and is in our English for Academic Purposes class. His application for the internship is being processed and all is on track for Luis to start his internship with an Australian mechanical engineering company in September. At Global Village Brisbane we are very happy to be able to help Luis achieve his dream and we hope that he remembers us when he is working for Ferrari and maybe even driving one!
