"Global Village Venom"
On Friday June 15th, Global Village Toronto showed partner school, Humber College who is king of the soccer field! GVT and Humber College met at the Lakeshore Campus of Humber for a much-talked about match.
The "Global Village Venom", with over 30 students on the team, was coached by two teachers – Gus and Drew. They met for several practices, perfecting their moves and team spirit before the big game; the players from Brazil, Korea, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Syria, and Mexico all worked together.
Each team member designed their own soccer jersey from shirts that were handed out at school. Humber's team was made up of students from the EAP (English for Academic Purposes) Program. |

Global Village students are able to stream directly into this program from level GV 7 and then move on to the degree or diploma program of their choice.
Global Village arranged for a bus to take the team and other students to the field at Humber. Over 50 students, teachers and admin staff lined the field to cheer the GV Venom to victory. After two halves and a 15 minute over-time period, the game came down to penalty kicks. Global Village was victorious with the final score being 2 – 0.
Humber College Associate Dean, Department of English, Joe Aversa presented Global Village Toronto President, Geneviève Bouchard with the trophy which is now proudly displayed in the reception area at GVT.
All members of the team and the coaches were presented with a special DVD of the game at the graduation ceremony.
A re-match has been planned for September and Global Village Toronto has no plans to give up the trophy!
Soccer fever at GVT continues this month as the students attend the FIFA U-20 World Cup semi-final match on July 19th. |
