The "Level-Up" Secret Formula! - Tips for your student clients

The number one question that teachers hear from their students is "What do I have to do to move up to the next level?" Here are some "do's" and "don'ts".

Ask your clients to practice these habits. Their English will improve faster, and they’ll have a better chance of leveling up:

DO:

  • Ask lots of questions
  • Come to class on time
  • Do the homework
  • Actively participate in every activity
  • Talk as much as possible in class
  • Write down what the teacher says to do
  • Practice what is learned in class outside of class with friends
  • Use the grammar covered in class in the speaking test at the end of the month

DON'T:

  • Tell the teacher "finished!" after a task is done. Keep talking to classmates or help those who haven't finished yet. Or do the activity again until they are perfect!
  • Confuse grammar familiarity with grammar proficiency; the grammar is mastered when it is used correctly and naturally when speaking and writing
  • Text-message friends during class time. If you're looking at your cell phone, you're not practicing your speaking. You're also making the teacher angry!
  • Skip class or come late!
  • Be impatient to level up. You'll slow down other students by moving up before you're ready. Remember, if the teacher keeps you back, it's because he/she knows you need more practice at that level.
